Short work rant, have an Alfa.

Kinja'd!!!

Just had a guy call in, "I just bought an exhaust for my Harley and if I give you the exhaust part number could you tell me what fuel injectors I will need for my carburetor?"

Yes, I know exactly which fuel injectors you need for your carbed bike based on some random exhaust part number. The correct answer, of course, being NONE, because you can only have one or the other, not both. I will keep a weary eye out for your CL special price on that Harley though...

hahahaha. I've gotten very few comments in today (oddly busy day at work). but this is great.

And here I thought all garage trouble started with an alfa!

Excuse me. Can you tell me what medication I need if I give you my shoe size and Lays flavor preference.

Apparently you don't know many Harley owners...

no you're 100% right, Harley's are probably more troublesome than an old Alfa (or at least comparable).
You should have told him the most expensive fuel injectors on the market.
Would have got it to that CL special quicker....

Aren't you being a bit harsh on the guy for calling it an injector rather than a jet? Pretty obvious what he meant, I'd have said, and it's not like he was way off: the jets do inject fuel, so to speak.

I'm guessing he wanted to know about carb jets?

Yea, every Harley has a major short... it's between the seat and the rider.

May be he was meaning "fuel nozzles": small bolt-like brass thingies, with a hole in the middle.

I gave you the short run of the conversation. And yes, I have a major pet peeve for people who don't call things what they really are, especially when my work pertains to those items.

For example, you tell me you need to upgrade your injectors, I do all the math and tell you what you need to upgrade to, you buy those parts and call me back screaming foul because I told you to buy them and they don't fit your carburetor and now the manufacturer wants a 15% restocking fee. (and yes, this scenario is quite possible as there were some models where they changed from carb to FI mid model, and some where there were sold one way or the other and later converted (carb to fi, vice versa))

Yes, he needed jets.

He was speaking of a jetting upgrade.

That's what I said. Those in my picture are "carburetor nozzles" in 'Urop, and "jets" in 'Murica. True is that all those I've seen so far, had an hexagonal head while these in the pic are for a flat screwdriver. Worldwide world is a big world.

Heh, try doing IT support. 'My hard disk is broken' does not mean send out a new hard disk without further corroboration :)

Oh I do a little bit of that as well. Like the guy who used a sex changer to change a 9 pin RS232 end to try and plug it into a VGA port and was confused why he his computer kept saying device not found on com port.
